About

I create handmade, simple, functional pieces. I’m interested in the subtle depth and complexity that clay and glaze can achieve.

In a world of immediacy, the repetitive slowness in the throwing and turning of clay into functional pieces is really grounding and peaceful which i hope is echo’d in the pieces.

The process

I use a high fire stoneware clay which is rich in iron, the pieces are thrown on the potters wheel, trimmed and then bisque fired to 1000ºc.

For some pieces, I brush on a thin layer of white slip, a process called Hakame, the wares are dipped in Chun glazes and all pieces are fired again between 1260ºc and 1270ºc in a small setup at the bottom of my garden. It’s a slow process with each piece having a making time of 2-3 weeks due to throwing, drying and glazing times.
